Marfel’s Lodge opened last 2013. Though relatively new, the lodge has already opened two more branches in Basco, Batanes’ capital.
I stayed in one of the extensions. For me, this is the ‘most homey’ of the three. It is secluded and has easy access to the national highway. The Welcome Basco sign is just five pedals away (Okay, maybe it’s thirty)! Marfel’s Lodge has adopted the Honesty Cafe’s policy. They set-up a mini Honesty Store wherein you can just get what you need, write it down and pay for it in the cash box. Honesty is the policy here in Batanes. : ))
Though electricity in Basco is 24 hours, the town’s water supply is still not consistent. Water is distributed every other day (or may still vary per locals) and is timed by the LGU. So better use water just when you really need it.
Marfel’s offers free wifi, use of kitchen and utensils. Bikes are also available for rent at Php 25 per hour or Php 200 for a whole day. There is also a TV in the common area and a dining table. Refillable drinking water is available too. Washing of clothes can be done, just advise the household staff. Towels are provided in the rooms and you can also request a thicker blanket if it gets really cold. 🙂
