Post New Year Stay at Green Sun Hotel Makati

It was mid-week of the first week of the first month of the year. And as if to further punctuate that the holidays were really over, I felt the need to extend my vacation for another night before facing the great possibilities of the next twelve monthsMy friend Mai and I booked a one night stay at Green Sun Hotel after staying at Alcoves the previous two nights. The property was at a quieter location in Makati, along Chino Roces Extension, tucked away inside a renovated old car warehouse.

The building’s past was still evident within the structure as the management decided to keep proof of its history. Visible were exposed pipes, grey concrete walls and jutted industrial ceilings. The
hotel appears to be very manly, but it still has its soft side as evidenced in the warm tones and homey accents used in decorating the rooms and other hotel areas.

We were welcomed with soft beds and plush pillows. The room has a desk, electric kettle and a mini-fridge too. The lighting was just right – perfect for a deep sleep if you are really tired. However, my friend and I noticed that the walls were too thin since we could hear the mumbled chatter of the people next door and those from the hallway. I knocked softly on the wall and discovered that it was made of wood. No wonder we could hear voices from the other side.

Green Sun Hotel is located along Chino Roces extendion in Makati. Our twin bed room is homey and cool! Perfect for that post holiday staycation I have been looking for. #greensunhotel #ponderingpaodaolei #themermaidwanders

Nonetheless, I had a good sleep without any disturbance. It was a good thing the occupants of the other rooms were cooperative as I needed to wake up early the next day. I guess they had a nice sleep too.

Before we headed out for dinner, we explored the confines of the hotel a bit, took some pictures and admired the art pieces on display.

This is just one of the curious art pieces you can find within the premises of the Green Sun Hotel. There are also interestings paintings created by local artist Maxeene Remulla. Perfect for the arts lover! #greensunhotel #ponderingpaodaolei #themermaidwanders

Green Sun Hotel Makati also has office and business spaces for lease. There is also an events space suited for private functions or corporate events.

Lobby and reception

The hotel has an upscale vibe which was evident in their dress code policy. I think it’s understandable that they were promoting a culture of decency and formality within the hotel premises. However, I find it a bit ridiculous. I have stayed in other hotels with higher star grading and I can not recall having been told to follow a strict dress code. My friend was almost unable to enter the bistro where breakfast was served because the staff noticed that she was wearing ‘slippers’. But my friend was wearing a footwear with back straps which would classify it as sandals. So they had no choice but to let her in later on.

For me, I would recommend this hotel to my friends because of its location. It is near major thoroughfares and establishments like airports and shopping malls.

There is the Soma Bistro where guests can dine but the prices were slightly higher than what we can afford. So my friend and I agreed to look for other restaurants. Offbeat food outlets were scattered near the hotel vicinity. By foot, it only took us between five to ten minutes to find this dining place which suited our budget. Mai and I found this little corner called Eco Plaza and had a satisfying dinner at less than P 150 each.

Green Sun hotel is an okay hotel to stay in. I just hope they change their dress code policy to be more lenient and guest-friendly.
